Rachel Brice video
Jul. 26th, 2005 12:00 pmIn case anyone is interested, here is a video of the amazing Rachel Brice dancing/playing around to a forthcoming song by Bassnectar called Belly Dancer Snake Charmer. We used that song throughout the workshop on Sunday and it has been stuck in my head on repeat ever since. Sadly the album doesn't come out until September so I am doomed to the same little chorus and swirly sound chasing each other around and around in my brain until then.
I'm less sore than I had feared I might be from the weekend. One of my toes on my right foot split open on Saturday, so I patched it together with liquid skin that night. The patch held, but the skin *next* to the patch split on Sunday. Ow. But really, that was the most painful part of the weekend. My shoulders are a bit stiff from veilwork followed by tribal arms and my glutes/illiotibial band/hamstrings (okay, basically my butt) ache a bit, but it's all perfectly sufferable and is kind of welcome in the sense of being a reminder of everything I did this weekend, a proof that I improved and challenged myself. I'm still processing it all.
Meanwhile, on to the next thing: I'm dancing this Sunday, July 31 at the Middle East at 11pm. So if for some reason you're out in Central Square round about then, keep an eye on the bakery window! I'm also dancing August 14 and 28. I spoke with someone else who dances there who said she uses the same music all the time, but by nature I am not capable of doing that if I can help it, so I'm working on some new stuff. I certainly do have a lot of music piled up that I could use, but I really want to use this particular piece and I think it will more or less dance itself--Si Abdo, from Exotic Balady, along with a short taqsim and a cane piece. I've got a new skirt to wear as well, a royal blue velvet mermaid skirt that I found at the workshop on Saturday, so now I have more options for my silver holographic bedleh. Hooray for accessorizing!
Only downside is that I'm sick with some kind of summer cold, and also it's hella hot outside so rehearsing will be difficult. I brought my cane to work though so I can dance in one of the empty offices here. It's a little mentally jarring to rehearse at work, but at least it's an office that nobody ever goes into, so it doesn't completely feel like I'm at work. Plus it has a great view of the Charles River.
Speaking of work, I guess that's what I ought to be doing. I will end this by noting to the probable confusion of most of you that I want to smack Nate Fisher upside the head. Then I want to smack Brenda.
