May. 25th, 2005 02:50 pmI did sun salutations this morning, but they don't seem to have encouraged the sun to show up. This morning, my garden was covered in petals from all the flowers that had been in bloom yesterday--it was very pretty, but so much for the flowers. Someday I will be able to plant herbs, if the weeds haven't firmly taken over. I broke down and am using the heating fan in my office, but I refuse to turn on the heat at home in late May, even if it is in the 40s :-(
Dance class was pretty cool last night, though getting there and home in all the bluster was a challenge. We worked on khaleegi steps, which I'd done a little bit before in a Nourhan Sharif workshop. I like it--anything with hair tossing is fine by me. Then we did what was a new cane step for me--don't think I can really describe it, but it involved an intense crunch of the obliques on the weight-bearing side while lightly stepping to that side with the other foot, then releasing the crunch and letting the leg on that side swing out while switching weight to the other foot. The cane is overhead the whole time, moving along with the crunch and release. I guess some people know it as a Reda step, since his company uses it a lot. And lastly we worked on the movement where you essentially draw a figure 8 on the floor with your foot, letting that hip follow along while keeping your other hip still and level. I think maybe Nourhan calls that an Egyptian figure 8--I know it's on one of her videos. We hadn't worked on that in a while and I was glad to see that my balance and isolation was much better than it had been with that movement previously. I like these classes where I can walk away saying "I learned this, this and this!" I'm definitely still not feeling 100 percent, but it felt good to move again.
Tonight is the two hour Lost season finale, and I am super hyped for it. That Frenchwoman is up to no good!
