1.  I was right to think that Print, Parfait Amour and Crystal would look good together.  I was wrong to think that a grey and purple eyeshadow combo would look good on my face after a long week of not enough sleep.

2.  Today is James Marsters' birthday.  Pretty, pretty man (not exactly worksafe).  He is 42.  Johnny Depp is in his 40s now too.  Hooray for men who prove that sexiness is not the exclusive province of the young.

3.  If anybody ever makes a gay vampire pirate movie starring James Marsters and Johnny Depp, I should go see it.  A lot.

4.  This Deepest Sender lj plugin for Firefox is pretty cool, but it won't display copied and pasted tabled quiz results correctly.  Thus you will never know what sort of deity I am.  I can tell you I am a pretty cool one, though.  I smite the wicked.

5.  My left gastrocs and soleus have been getting more and more painful over the last few weeks.  I'm starting to wonder if I should go back to the physical therapist, but I don't want to deal with first going to my primary care physician to get a referral.  Dang it, why can't bodies just work properly?  I feel like I am destined to carry this point of pain around with me all the time.  It changes location but it's always there.  My "good" foot has started twinging recently too.

6.  Started working on a quick choreography to Natasha Atlas' cover of I Put a Spell on You last night.  It's too overplayed in the belly dance circles to use at a BD performance venue, but I'm thinking of using it in a cabaret or goth setting at some point.  Such a good song, and much fun to dance to--I was putting single hip twists on top of the wikki-wikki-scratch bits, looked pretty good in the tv reflection.  Positive thinking can overcome pain, sometimes.

7.  If today is as deadly dull as yesterday I will burst, I swear.  I suppose I can always go back to surfing for Spike photos...

This is the best refridgerator ever, except for the not actually working part.  Still, it's pretty darn cool!

Being bored at work once again, I thought I would do some research on what causes calf muscle pain.  I found this page on calf muscle strain--that little circle on the muscle diagram is exactly where my leg hurts.  Other sites discussing this condition mentioned some bruising being seen with calf muscle injuries, which I also had when this injury was newer.  My theory of having overstretched my muscle and torn it looks like a pretty good theory.  I've been using one of those 3/4 circle wedge footrest things that are sold at running stores for stretching calf muscles and hamstrings, but the more I read, the more it seems like I couldn't have done anything worse for my calf muscles.  Strange how the stretches could feel so good at the time.

The good thing is that this type of injury does heal, and I know what to do for it because it's not that different from what I'm already doing for my foot.  The bad thing is that the rest part of RICE is just not going to happen.  I know that there's never going to be a good time to slow things down, but really, right now is a bad time.  At the end of this month there's a workshop with the brilliant dancer Amir Thaleb from Argentina, a troupe performance on Sept. 11, I start two classes per week Sept. 13, another workshop in early October with Sa'Diyya, a possible trip to a competition in NJ in November, probable performance in ZaBeth's xmas hafli, a manray thing in January, a cabaret at some point--and more will come up, I know it will.

I should pay attention to the fact that my calf muscle twitched somewhat violently as I wrote that last paragraph.   But I think this kind of thing--constant pain and injury, that is--might be inevitable, judging from stuff I've heard and read from other dancers and people in more athletic pursuits.  Suffer for your art, I guess.  But I do wish bodies would just work the way they were supposed to, or that perhaps you could inject some extra-strengthening stuff into your muscle fibers.  Or nanobots!!  Yeah, that's what I need, little nanobots traveling around in my bloodstream and fixing the stuff that needs fixin'.  Where's my silver nanobot, baby?
