Mar. 13th, 2006 11:41 amTearing up credit card applications is apparently not enough to prevent somebody from using them--scary story found via boing boing. I try to remember to bring those to work with me to shred, now I'll be extra vigilant about remembering...

Date: 2006-03-13 04:51 pm (UTC)Should anyone consider getting their own shredder, be sure to get one that cross-cuts as well as shreds. Now, you'd think that all shredders would have that feature, but they don't. Perhaps they are useful for making packing material from newspapers, or for papier mache projects; but they are not useful for securely shredding things with one's personal info on them.

I'm content right now that if any potential identity thief wanted to go through my garbage, they'd have to wade through a hefty amount of used and stinky kitty litter to get to the junk mail and annoying solicitations. :) They would have to be determined.
