Dec. 13th, 2005 09:02 pmUnder the Sand, or Sous le Sable (imdb, netflix, but the reviewers are very stupid at both*), is one of the best movies I have ever seen, while it is simultaneously one of the most difficult to watch. I think I empathized with Charlotte Rampling's character Marie entirely too much and I won't be entirely all okay until M comes home. Hopefully I will be able to believe that he is really there.
*slow? plotless? well, yes, but that's irrelevant to the kind of movie this is. Those reviewers have had their human empathy overcome by their ADD.

The most recent prize was the netflix person who was shocked SHOCKED! at the homosexual content in a Gregg Araki film (Mysterious Skin), which (for a change) was pretty well described in the blurb. I mean, I could understand if the person was allergic to Slowdive and rented an Araki film unaware that he always uses it in his soundtracks, but ...
