By the cold hard light of day, looking at my baladi dress I see that indeed the only real option is to turn it into a skirt. At least I can get something good out of it all, it is beautiful fabric and will be a lovely skirt. And gauntlets. I know where I went wrong; the original pattern had the dress ending at the lower/mid ribs, where it would attach to the bra band. When I extended the pattern, I followed the trajectory of the printed pattern from waist to lower ribs. What I neglected to consider is that people aren't actually built like triangles, and that once you hit the ribs, things go more straight up rather than continuing on in that same angle. So the upper part of the dress is indeed far too wide, and there's really no way to change that because I had already cut out the front of the dress--the edge of my cut out probably is where I should have been putting my seams :( But, I do still get a nice skirt, and it was a learning experience--I'm pretty sure I will tackle this again, with a better idea of what I am doing.

I think it's Iain Banks' The Culture series that has those triangle beings--this dress would fit one of them. or a comparatively narrow-hipped linebacker.

Well, now to fix the skirt, dance, do a million loads of laundry, and go to two parties tonight. Hooray for productive long weekends!
