performance on sat., T woes
Sep. 30th, 2005 12:12 pmI'm performing a solo piece on Saturday with the Jewels of Jamal as part of an international cultural festival at Fanieul Hall between 3:15 and 3:45pm. It's somewhere outdoors there, and it's free. It'll be a half-gothic, half-traditional rendition of Natasha Atlas' I Put a Spell on You.
I shouldn't complain too much about my horrible commute this morning, because after all I wasn't hit by a train, unlike some other poor person. But it was a little unreasonable for my 45 minute commute this morning to take 2 hours and 15 minutes. When I arrived at Alewife at 8:15, I found that the train was only going as far as Kendall, with shuttle bus service thereafter. Ugh, thought I, I'll get out at Harvard and take the Dudley bus to Hines ICA and thence to Kenmore. 45 minutes later, the train arrived at Harvard, and I got out, into billowing clouds of black acrid smoke which is apparently not newsworthy since there are no news items about it. It certainly did lend a certain apocalyptic air to the morning though and made one wonder what sort of medical emergency shuts down 5 T stops. Many other people had the same idea about the Dudley bus, so I ended up hopping on a 66 bus to Allston, there to catch the 57 to Kenmore Square. That wasn't a bad plan, really, except that it was a long wait for the 57 which then proceeded to make many stops along the way. All in all, I arrived at work quite late and already as tired as though I had worked a full day. I had also chosen to wear a pair of shoes I haven't worn since last spring, so my feet currently hate me.
Also, I forgot to put on earrings this morning, and that really bugs me. Usually I use forgetting earrings as an excuse to buy a new pair, but the only earring provider near my office is in the Hotel Commonwealth and is decidedly not in the casual purchase price range, at least not for me.
Sigh. At least there's Serenity tonight. They can't take the sky from me...
