- bats:
Bats are cute and soft and sweet and do good for the world. - buffy:
Do I even have to explain this one? - egyptian belly dance:
Classic Egyptian style belly dance, raqs sharqi, is my preferred style of dance. I love its precision and subtlety, its drama and heartfelt emotion, the way so much can be communicated through a single small movement--and on the flip side, the earthiness and playfulness of folkloric dancing. Of all the styles of belly dance, this is the one that suits my personality the best. - goth:
a long long time ago I realized I was one. It's a label and labels never entirely suit the complexity of a human being, but I don't mind using it. - lycia:
At their best, their music is a thing of soul-searing beauty, frail human failings in frozen crystalline clarity. - nick cave:
Disregarding the last two albums, Nick Cave has produced some of the best music EVER and is in many ways the soundtrack of my life. No matter what he does now, listening to the older songs take me to specific times and places, both physical and mental, in a way that few other artists can. - postmodern navel-gazing:
the last time I happened to look at my interests list, I was the only one with this one listed. This one is kind of a personal pun, because it refers both to the reasons why I left graduate school and to the kinds of thoughts I have to think, as a former postmodern anthropolgist, about myself as an American white woman participating in this odd subculture based on Middle Eastern dance. - raqs sharqi:
er, I think I answered this one already. - science fiction:
I don't think I really need to explain why I like science fiction, but I will note that as I've grown up, I find myself enjoying sci fi as opposed to fantasy more and more. This might partly reflect where the quality writers are at these days, and that sci fi tends to produce fewer of those multi-volume poorly written bloated cash cow series; I haven't figured out what it says about me. - tattoos:
My tattoos are all an important part of who I am; each says something, even if it isn't directly representational. The endlessness of my knotwork is an important symbol to me, one I became invested in when I was re-sorting my life in Montreal and feeling lost. The thing about knotwork is that you accept that you can be many places at once and still be the same, that you can be your own center. Amelia's pawprint surrounded by knotwork is an acknowledgment that sometimes others become a part of your center. My history on my skin.
