where do people get doves to be released? are there dove cotes all over the place just waiting to rent out their doves? if not, what happens to the dove, brought from god knows where, after its symbolically-laden release? Does it race straightaway home, no matter how far it may be, wings pumping strongly to the beat of instinct, or is it lost and confused, easy prey for hawks and owls?

I could google this. but I'd rather think about it a while longer.
