My Lemony Snicket calendar says:  "Do you feel as if you are aboard a rickety trolley, racing furiously in the wrong direction?  February is often like that."

Except that I feel a little more like I'm in a mired trolley rather than a racing one.  At least at the moment.

Had hoped to make it to Ceremony last night--I even brought club clothes and makeup to work with me--but M was feeling ill and shaky from a few near-accidents earlier in the day, so I did not go.  I worked hard during dance class and fell asleep on the couch shortly after 11:30* though, so it was probably just as well.  Class was good, intensive cane and baladi for two hours.  I felt like I was doing okay and got some good feedback.  We instituted tag-dancing (well, for everybody else re-instituted, but it was new for me), wherein everybody is in a circle and somebody dances in the middle, then when she's been dancing enough the dancer in the middle tags someone else to be in the middle.  It's really interesting to see different people's choices and responses to the same piece of music.  It makes you think about your own.  As I remarked to [livejournal.com profile] photiq later, this class is really good for pushing me into doing more and more improv, to the point where I somewhat prefer it now--or at any rate, I am much more comfortable with just dancing without the anchor of a pre-thought out potentially overanalyzed choreography to hang on to.  Learning to think on my feet.  And hips.  And shoulders.  And cane.  Et cetera.  Though I was sad not to have a chance to use my new A'kai silk veil.  That pretty little thing does all the dancing for you, I swear!  Hopefully in tonight's class we'll do some veil.

*11:30 being when I ought to go to bed to get enough sleep anyway, but I never do.  Sleep before midnight is a very foreign concept to my body.

Haven't figured out what to do with myself before class this evening.  If I weren't lugging a gear bag and cane around with me, I'd just go shopping downtown or in Harvard Square for half an hour, but bulky shopping is not so much fun.  Then I was thinking that maybe I would stop by the Harvest Coop and pick up some fruit as I have none at home, but then the walk to Inman Square with gear bag and cane is not all that appealing either.  Maybe I'll just go early and watch the beginner's class.  I don't know, I don't know...

For the last two weeks, there has been a rather creepy guy hanging out by the windows of the Brazilian Cultural Center watching all the belly dance classes, like for two and a half hours.  Occasionally the local homeless people stop by for the free show, but they don't feel that threatening, just unpleasant.  This guy however is fairly young, I'd guess early 20s, and doesn't look like a homeless guy, and that makes us nervous, like he's picking who he's going to follow when she leaves class.  He was out there last week in the bitter cold, too.  I think I am going to call the Cambridge police this afternoon and ask them if they can make sure he knows he's being watched.  Unfortunately, the entire front wall of the studio is windows, and one side doesn't have curtains.  I can certainly understand the rare bit of foot traffic stopping to see what we're doing and watching for a little while, but this guy is icky.  He just stands there and smokes and stares.  When you walk by him on the way out he flinches a little bit but mostly tries to look like he's invisible.  None of us have confronted him because he does seem off, and I doubt it would do much good anyway.  If I were a superhero I would kick his ass.

that's frightening. definately call the cops. staring for two hours in the bitter cold is not good. either he really wants to take belly dancing (unlikely) or he's getting off on it.

If you wanted, I'm sure I could get a group of folks together and just go stand outside and watch *him* for an hour or two.

If he's belly dancing, you mean?

Hmm, is there a way to put a curtain up? I'd never condone a guy being creepy, but at least then it would curtail what he's doing.

Also, do you guys walk to the T/your cars together at the end of class? Its probably a good idea.

Good luck! :)
