Watched 30 minutes or so of the Patrick Stewart/David Tennant Hamlet last night--one expects Patrick Stewart to be splendid, and of course he was, but I really liked what I saw of what Tennant brought to the role of Hamlet.  One barely thought of the Doctor at all ;-)  Anyway, I only stopped watching it because once it's available on DVD I'll want to watch the whole thing from the start.

The story that went with the photo said they had to cut the tree open to get the horse's head out--horses will insist on sticking their heads where they don't belong! She had a dislocated jaw and some scrapes but was expected to recover just fine :)

It was a splendid production. It's not the first time Tennant's played Hamlet though.

He also looks like he has gained a tiny bit of weight. Enough that his face and frame have filled out slightly.

I was HUGELY impressed by the actress who played Ophelia. Her mad scene was truly frightening. She wasn't this drifting vacant creature, she summoned up all of Ophelia's unfocused rage and fury.

It doesn't surprise me to hear it wasn't his first time--he came across as somebody who was really inhabiting the role. He looked good, I thought.

He did the RSC stage production back in 2008, where he got rave reviews (and was also convalescing from spinal surgery midway through the run, it turns out).

The whole production will be available for free, online, at the Great Performances Website, if you can't wait for the DVD!

It was broadcast on PBS last night, I think in the Great Performances series. Hopefully it will come out on DVD sooner or later!

I'd say enjoy the exhibit, but I know already for a fact that you will! :-)

I was listening while I was sewing, and ooh! aah! I loved the way Ophelia mimicked Claudius during the mad scene.
