This evening my chiropractor not only fixed up my back and hips and shoulders, but she also declared a couple of my ribs out of alignment from all my coughing.  She adjusted them, which rather hurt in the moment, but immediately afterward my lungs could suddenly expand all the way again!  Hooray!

Reading an excellent book now on Arabic popular culture--I'm still in the introductory chapters about the phenomenon of pan-Arab nationalism and the standardization (or not) of the Arabic language.  It is fascinating stuff and my head is spinning from all the revelations about why things are the way they are.  I'll try to write a review when I'm done, but this is a very valuable read.  There's a bit about the controversy over Fifi Abdo serving Ramadan meals to the poor later in the book, can't wait to read that.

is a chiropracter generally covered by insurance? i'm feeling kinda in need, but i've never investigated going to one.

Depends on the insurance--mine does, it's a HarvardPilgrim plan specifically for the university I work at. My chiropractor isn't at all affiliated with the university, though. I think 20 visits per year are covered, which is enough for once a month plus the occasional crisis.

I'm on Blue Cross and go to the same chiro: they'll cover a third of the visit cost until I've paid $200 out of pocket, and then they cover about 90% of the cost for the rest of the year. The chiro actually called my insurance company for me during my consultation and explained the fee structure to me.

my ribs are always out of alignment (depressed and rotated) and it is such a great feeling when they're aligned (woah, you mean i can actually use these ab muscles???? and wow, i can breathe!!?)

it's such a shame they refuse to remain aligned :)
