Nov. 19th, 2004 01:18 pmI am completely and utterly falling asleep in my chair. It is very pleasant here with the sun warming my shoulders and some nice Telemann on the radio. I think "ah, how pleasant" and then I realize that my eyes are closed and my head is inches from the keyboard. I haven't been so tired in a long time. 5+ hours of sleep three or four nights in a row apparently does me in these days.
It was well worth it to get up early yesterday morning to get tickets for the Eddie Izzard signing, though. I got a group A ticket, which meant that we got to sit in chairs for the Q&A and were up front in the signing line. Borders was stuffy and crowded with stupid people (the kind who talk about trivia, in this case about Eddie Izzard, at the top of their lungs so that everybody will know how special they are to know all these things--that are generally common knowledge anyway) but once Eddie appeared it was easy to forget all that. He did about 15 or so minutes of monologue about the Boston area and colonial history, then took about 15 minutes of questions. Even at a bookstore signing the man is side-splittingly funny, but it was also very apparent just how intelligent he is as well. He says he wants to get involved with EU politics because he thinks it's a time of great promise over there. He observed that Europe's past is the US future and the US past is the European future, in that we're just now re-examining and redefining states' rights whereas the Europeans are just now writing a common constitution. I expect he'd be a quite sensible leader. And a snappily dressed one too--he was attired in a swank pin-striped suit and looked generally fabulous. I'd vote for him if he were running for office in my country.
In the signing he made a point to shake everybody's hand and get everybody's names (not for writing them down, that we already had written on our stuff), and gave everybody their own joke. Or at least he was at the beginning of the night; it was quite a mob scene so I'm sure he was recycling by the end of the night. He signed my MAC limited edition Sexie lipstick (signing a tube of lipstick is a challenge, I can tell you from observation, but this will now be my most cherished lipstick *ever*), a DVD and a surprise for
shnells.
must keep eyes open... but my skeleton is shouting "i sleep now!"
