I thought the overall level of the dancing last night was indeed quite high.  I think it will be Mark and Comfort going home.

Toni Basil was rather freakishly disturbing.  I'm all about disregarding injunctions about dressing age appropriately, but if you can't fill out the front of your dress any more, it is probably not a suitable style for your body in its current state.  I wouldn't have been that surprised if she had suddenly unzipped her skin and revealed a preying mantis type of alien inside.  I don't think she had all that much to contribute as a judge, either.

It was interesting to hear in the backgrounds of the dancers that most of them do in fact have training in other dance forms, whether they've previously admitted to it or not.  I now feel that Comfort has no excuse for her sloppiness in the ballroom dances.

The for real thing is getting old.

I guess I'll organize this by couple:

Courtney and Will:  Her samba was stronger than his.  Occasionally his hips had the necessary freedom of movement, but most of the time his body looked forced and lacked conviction.  Not something you usually see in Will, but I can't help contrasting it to Joshua's Latin performances with his hips swinging away.  Their slow or lyrical hip hop was pretty moving.  I don't think it was history making, but it was powerful.  Will definitely redeemed himself with his performance, and Courtney was good enough to keep the routine running along.  WRT the solos, I say rock on Will!  That was totally a gimmick, except that he did it so well, and it was a good strategic choice to show that he has humor in addition to technique.  He looked like he was having a blast.  Courtney's solo I don't remember much about.  The women's contemporary solos have been pretty uninteresting all along for the most part.  She'll probably hang in another week.

Katee and Twitch:  why did Katee have to be psycho predator woman this week?  Either she was the crazy ex-girlfriend or the sexual stalker.  I suppose it's good to show her versatility.  The Mia Michaels routine was funny in a sad way.  We've all been on both sides of that door and the choreo and dancers really made you feel it.  I agree that the musical choice did Twitch a favor, and it was Katee who really elevated that piece.  Tyce Diorio's Georgia Brown choreo I thought really misinterpreted the song but Twitch and Katee gave it their all and made it look convincing.  I can see the criticism that Katee could have been more grrr but otoh I think she was more grrr than she was given credit for--she's a tiny dancer alongside Twitch and the fact that she was able to stand up to his personality and physical presence says a lot.  Solos, Twitch hit it hard as usual, Katee flounced and spun around well.  Which is to say, both showed that they were excellent dancers but neither one knocked my socks off the same way Will in his wig did.

Comfort and Mark:  I thought their hip hop was very entertaining.  She did outshine him, but then in the choreo she was the instigator anyway.  That sort of vertical flip over Mark was very cool.  Once again she blew a ballroom style, her foxtrot was leaden.  I thought Mark was much better than the judges gave him credit for, though.  If he'd been paired with a dancer who knew her ballroom stuff, they'd have been praising him for always being there for her.  The look suited him too.  Solos, hers was good, her solos have been steadily improving.  Might have been enough to keep her in the show.  Mark's solo was to Santogold, yay!  Great choice of music for him.  I love his dancing; I'd like to see more extension and flexibility in his hips on those leaps, he's not in the same league as Will or Joshua in that regard, but he's always entertaining.  His background clip made him seem like someone I'd've been friends with in school.  He might be going home tonight, though really I think it should be Twitch.

Joshua and Chelsie:  their Argentinian tango wasn't smooth thoughout but it had its moments.  Joshua is a manly, manly man.  There was a little sense of the football player on the dance floor, but at the same time, his size and quality of movement gave him a masculine solidity that suited the tango well.  Chelsie of course knows this stuff and danced it well.  Their disco routine, well, his strength and her fearlessness were impressive and they did have some good character moments.  I did think you could see them counting more than dancing a lot of the time.  That changeover in the arms when he was swinging her around was very impressive.  Chelsie's solo was ok; I know it's hard for the ballroom dancers to do solos, but it still felt very repetitive for those 30 seconds.  Joshua's solo was very powerful in its compact expressiveness.  Will's was flashier, but Joshua's was just as good, imo.

So, I'd guess Comfort and Mark are going home, but Comfort seems to have a strong fan base now, so it might be Courtney or Chelsie.  I think it should be Twitch rather than Mark, but Twitch is super popular so who knows.

Saw an interview with Gev in which he said that he is actually going to go to Broadway and give that a shot.  Good for him!

I'm sick.  I give up on my resolution not to get cranky this week.

Feel better!
I'm sick too. I swear it's this stupid weather!!!! We're all feeling the effects of the humidity and insanity in the air!

I thought Toni Basil's hair/headpiece looked like on unit. She could just pull the whole thing off and stick it on a mannequin's head and it would look the same.

She seemed intimidated or something about giving comments, which I can understand given the close working relationship between Nigel and Mary.

Did you notice how when Mark pulled Comfort's name out of the hat he did not sound pleased?! "Cooomfoooort", all long and drawn out, dropping at the end. I think her new he needed a strong woman partner this week if he wanted to stay in.

Joshua is awesome! Such a good egg.
