A squirrel has been napping in the tree outside my window for a while now. It's pretty cute. This one, as it resides in Kenmore Square, probably won't eat my tulip bulbs, so I can admire it. The ones that live on my block are varmints. Although the plus side of the squirrel population explosion is that there is also a fox population explosion, as foxes not only eat squirrels but also eat acorns, a bountiful crop of which last year produced this year's squirrel overload. So hopefully I will see foxes in my neighborhood. Maybe I could hire them to protect my tulips. I could pay them with grapes.

Every year, our office has its own little flu shot clinic, and other offices come over and take advantage of the opportunity as well. Somebody called from another office to ask if we were still doing the flu shots even though there's a shortage, and she thought I was strange for saying I'd feel guilty for taking a flu shot when I don't fit any of the "you should get a flu shot" criteria. I think it's sad that people think that is a strange sentiment.

Last night I watched Animal Face-off: Lion v. Tiger on Animal Planet. I think the final contest was totally rigged, since lion took tiger by surprise in their little cg simulation. If they had equal notice, tiger would have gone up in a tree, jumped on lion and snapped lion's neck, end of story. It was an interesting show though; the comparison of the two species was just the jumping-off point for an examination of what makes them so effective at what they do. The best part of the show were the machines they built to replicate the bites of lions and tigers. First they made styrofoam carvings of the cats' skulls and teeth, then cast them in metal. The metal skulls were then mounted on hydraulic presses to help create the power behind a lunging lion or tiger, and the whole apparatus was then mounted on a tractor chassis. They put glowing lights in the mechalion and mechatiger's eyes. Mathew and I agreed that we should have a pair of them for rolling down Mass Ave. And if anyone bothered us, we could bite them with over a thousand pounds of pressure.

I put a lumbar support on my chair at work and raised my monitor a few inches. My neck and shoulders already feel much more relaxed. I think I'm going to set up my weight bench again this weekend. Postural issues can only be helped by stronger back muscles.

This weekend I am going to sleep in and then I will be social. I will get in some dance practice time, but it will be nice to have some of the other aspects of my life back. The Toale Gallery ParkeHarrison exhibit on Saturday afternoon, then PJ Harvey, then a party, then more sleep--it sounds like heaven!
