troupe update

The whole troupe/class situation kept eating away at me all day yesterday, so last night I emailed Seyyide to tell her what's going through my mind on all this. I got back a super supportive email from her--she doesn't think the situation is at all fair to me either, and won't change the class night until at least December. It still will mean that I will probably have to give up Amira Jamal's class in the future, which heartily sucks, but if that's my only option, that's my only option. There's also a chance that other troupemates will be able to come back to Tuesdays, because some of them had other classes this semester that interfered with their dance classes. I know that one other student really wants us to move to Mondays because on Tuesdays she needs to wait for her husband to get home from work to hand off their kids to him, and Mondays he works from home. I am kind of wondering why she can't just get a babysitter to watch her kids for a couple of hours, but I guess the world is very different now than when I was a teenager and everybody was babysitting for extra cash.

I was also worried that I couldn't be in our troupe performance Oct. 2 because I won't be able to make a mandatory Monday night rehearsal next week, which would have been profoundly horrible irony, but there is no question of my not being in the performance. I never *really* thought that mandatory thing applied to me, but it's good to know for sure.

Seyyide also said in her email how rewarding it was for her as a teacher to watch my progress as a dancer, so that was nice to hear too. All in all, I feel much better now, and take the whole exchange of an example of why it's better to get stuff out in the open rather than keep it bottled up.
