Jul. 12th, 2007 12:16 amI'm sleepy and sunburned and full of wine so my review won't be as detailed as usual, but random notes:
Still don't like Lacey and Cameron.
Who did the contemporary number? Oh, Danny and Anya, I think. Nigel said what I had said to M not moments before: why are all the relationship dances unhappy? And that one went beyond unhappy, it looked like he beat her and left her for dead. If they had gone all out and made it savage I'd respect them for it, but as it was, no. Plus I think Nigel was spot on with what he said to Danny. Actually, I thought Nigel's commentary this week was generally solid.
Cedric did pretty good with that mambo. I still think it's criminal that he is in while Jesus and Jimmy are out, but it is touching to see him grow. I think the costuming and his height really helped create a character out there for him, and there was no question he was enjoying it. Shauna was good too, as the judges said this is second nature to her.
Pasha and Sara were very good together and that was some pretty fancy footwork there.
WFT was up with Lauren's "I am Misha Chin" thing? it wasn't exactly offensive, it was just wierd. Maybe it helps explain why she seems to have no personality of her own. That said, though, her and Neil's number by that fabulous choreographer whose name I forget was pretty good. Neil also showed real growth this week, and I like him much better knowing that he has worked very hard on his Chewbacca impression. In fact, I wonder if having a character to play in his dance was what helped him really burst out of his rather restrained usual self. The number was rather reminiscent of Sweet's song and dance routine in Once More With Feeling.
Sabra and Dominic--the choreography didn't do much for me but they were good with it. I really liked that they were able to carry a few seconds of no movement at all.
Jaimie and Hok. Sigh. Hok showed some good moments but he wasn't really up to the level of most of the other men this week. He looked like he was focusing on counting too hard to portray the emotion that the choreography called for. And I'm pretty sure he almost dropped Jaimie at one point early on.
So I don't know who will go on or be dropped, but I think I would say probably Lauren and, with deep regret, Hok. I'd rather see Danny go, but he has the technical expertise and that will probably keep him in, unless America has decided it doesn't like Danny and he totally messes up his solo. You never know.
