is the internet broken?

I can't get into my email or even just www.rcn.com, and some other sites aren't working well or at all either. But some are working just fine, like LJ, weather.com, boston.com, etc. so it's not a question of my connection. Did something major break on the internet?

edited to add: i used 3rd party sites to ping rcn.com, and they do indeed seem to be dead in the water at the moment. I am having withdrawal symptoms!
