A while ago, I remember there was a flurry of interest in Boston Organics and some of you signed up--those who did, are you still using it? How have you liked it overall? Would you recommend it?
bridget and i tried them on two seperate occassions. i like them a lot more in theory than in practice. the problems we had were:
1. food wouldn't stay fresh very long 2. too much food for us to eat 3. not a bargain, price was roughly equivalent to what you'd pay for organic equivalents at whole foods
so yeah, just didn't make sense for us. i wish it did. you might want to try it for a week or two, just to see what you think.
it was neat but several issues stopped jess and i from continuing the service: a) we have never cooked at home enough to use all the stuff they bring b) sometimes the lettuce was dirty and the washing process was way too time consuming... simple salad spinning could not remove the caked on dirt. c) they didn't deliver to salem so i would take the deliveries at work. that was mildly embarassing a few times when i was interrupted in mid-meeting by the front desk calling about my "special delivery". this ended up being the deal breaker for me...
I wish I could make regular trips to Wilson's, but with my crazy schedule and without a car, it's pretty much impossible :-/ I am going to check out the Arlington Center farmers market one of these Wednesdays, though!
there's also the union sq farmer's market which isn't too bad. L likes pemberton farms a lot too which would be closer to you guys. one of these days i gotta check it out. i always found wilson farms way too expensive for my budget :(
Union Square is pretty difficult for me by public transit. Pemberton Farms is pretty good, definitely a step up from the supermarket and the prices are reasonable. Unfortunately they have a great cheese section, which makes visits there very dangerous ;-)
