Barbaro did get laminitis after all :-(  He still seems to be in good spirits, but he's also described as being under "an aggressive pain management regimen."

I check Bloodhorse.com pretty regularly for updates--poor guy. It really doesn't look that good :-(

laminitis is rough.

the saying "no hoof no horse" is true, they have to cut away most of the damaged hoof and help it grow in properly. it's not impossible to recover from, its incredibly painful. i hope that some positive signs show in the next 24-48 hours.
