And the walking keeps on going!
Jul. 6th, 2008 05:10 pmToday we decided to go to the Audubon Society's Habitat nature sanctuary in Belmont and stroll about. We walked for about an hour, and my foot handled it just fine! I think it was actually very good exercise for my foot to walk on soft, slightly uneven ground; the little muscles of the foot got worked in all directions but every impact of my foot against the ground was soft. Concrete is bad for the human body. It was very nice to go somewhere so quiet and calm and peaceful. Saw a few interesting birds, especially one dapper Bohemian waxwing, and the biggest squirrel I've ever seen. Seriously, we thought it was a rabbit when we saw it ahead on the trail. I also learned, reading the signage, that at one point there was a half mile Thoroughbred racetrack in Belmont, and part of the Habitat sanctuary used to be a farm dedicated to raising first Thoroughbreds and later Standardbreds. So the day was relaxing, gratifying and educational all at the same time. Can't ask for more than that!
