Loved Razor last night. It really makes me look forward to the final season of Battlestar Galactica.
I bought a VCD from Egypt of the dancer Asmahan--some of you may remember a video clip I posted of her a while back in an amazing tiger dress. I was thrilled to find the clip on my VCD, and even more thrilled to find there's more to it than I saw on YouTube. In the version I've got, she's carried onto the stage in a cage carried by four strapping young men. She "escapes" and then proceeds to act like a total tiger, growling and snarling and taking out her zookeepers all in time to the music. This is completely what I want to do when I grow up! I love it! Apart from that clip, it was a pretty good DVD. The first show suffers from "creative" camerawork but the rest is filmed pretty straightforwardly and is of reasonable quality. She's known for her elaborate stage shows and seems to be always introduced by her chorus of young men dancing in very Reda style, almost Broadway with an Arabic accent. She's not the finest dancer in the world but she knows how to put on a very good show.
Also interesting is that I noted she has a tattoo on her I think left upper arm. I couldn't get a clear look at it but I'm guessing it's her name in Arabic script. She's one of the big names in Cairo, so there goes the theory that Arabs will not accept tattoos on a dancer! Ha! Between the tiger dress and the tattoo Asmahan is clearly one of my new heroes ;-)
I finally replaced the safety pins on my zill elastics with actual sewing. It only took me about two years to do it. Unfortunately that was about the last procrastinating thing I could come up with before working out/dancing this afternoon (cold makes motivation sluggish), so I suppose I'd better get to it. Grrr says the tattooed tiger lady!
Oh, and I'm dancing at the Middle East at 10:40pm tonight. If I had a tiger dress I would wear it!
