Jul. 29th, 2005 11:27 amThe Dirty Three are playing October 10 at the MFA--seems to me that would be an ideal way to see them, sitting relaxed and comfortable rather than standing in a club. I'll try to make it to that.
M bought tickets to Cavalia as an early birthday present for me--so we're definitely going Sept. 9 :-) Such pretty, pretty horses! They don't even look quite real. Yes, I'm just a little bit excited for this, I am indeed!
Drum solo workshop last night was pretty good--Karim Nagi Mohammed was there throughout the class to provide live drumming for us, which was wonderful. Not only is the energy so much better, but he was also able to demonstatrate different things at the drop of a hat in a way that CDs just can't do. Plus he's a very nice guy and enthusiastic about teaching. He stayed to drum along to the recorded music that we learned a bit of choreography to as well. The choreo was excitingly challenging. It is a struggle for me to unlearn hagallah the somewhat incorrect way I first learned it--what I did learn isn't wrong exactly, but it isn't what I should be doing now, especially if we use it in troupe work because it will be obvious that my movement is up-up-over rather than out-up-over. Well, I guess it wouldn't be obvious to everyone, but it would be to me and I'm guessing also to troupe director Seyyide. It's going to be a tough one, though.
When a couple of other dancers and I arrived at South Station around 10:20pm to go home, we discovered it was closed due, depending on which announcement/conductor you believed, to a medical emergency or a fire. Given that the Red Line was closed all the way from South Station to Central Square, that must have been some medical emergency or fire. By the time our shuttle bus got to Park, the Red Line had reopened, and there were emergency vehicles all over the place. None of them were fire or medical vehicles, though. Nothing in the paper this morning... I didn't get home until 11:45, tired and hungry and footsore. All in all, the T has not been my friend the last couple of days.
So glad it's Friday...
