A very dapper blue jay just appeared in the tree next to my office window.  It's nice to see that they seem to be making a comeback from West Nile virus, which hit them as hard as it did the crows.

I'm suddenly getting more gig offers and it's putting me in a position where I really have to think carefully about how I proceed.  Of course I want to jump at every opportunity to perform, and the interest is very flattering.  OTOH, there are professional standards about pay rates and so forth, and I shouldn't sell myself short (not that I'm the greatest dancer ever, but I'm not the worst, either, at least not in the Boston professional world).  One potential gig in particular sounds *great* on the surface, but I have a feeling that there is much more than meets the eye there.*  We'll see--I'll find out more about it.  It would be kind of funny for a variety of reasons if it does happen.

The weekend was good, but not restful.  Went with [livejournal.com profile] mvoid and J (an LJ user?  I don't know) to see a production of Bat Boy at Salem State on Friday.  I was exhausted--I actually fell asleep in the car on the way up--but it was worth it.  There were some production issues, but the best, best, best part of the show was a chorus group of dancers in bat costumes.  The wings were truly excellent and I need to own something like them for some over the top goth numbers.  Heck, if I had one of those costumes I'd probably sleep in it at night.  (not upside down though.  that would be pretentious)

Saturday I got up early (for me) to eat enormous quanitites of chocolates and sweets to celebrate a happy event.  Then off to Chinatown (in the rain.  how bladerunner!) for fabric for harem pants.  I found a nice coppery brown rayon-y fabric with a floral design--the pattern has a sort of Turkish look to it, and the color and texture are a good match for the shiny black skirt and leopard choli/coin belt.  (notice a trend?  put me on stage, and I go spotty)  THen M and i went out to eat at the Aegean Restaurant in Watertown over by the Arsenal Mall (excellent food!), then off to a small party where I drank more than I ought and stayed up very very late.  It was fun at the time though.  Sunday morning was not so much fun.  I wasn't as hungover as I probably deserved to be, but the alcohol in my body kept me from sleeping well.  Still, I ignored my sleepiness and made those harem pants, did three loads of laundry, mopped the floors, did dishes, washed the ferrets' water fountain, did some computer maintenance and did some dancing.  The dancing was not all that great, given how worn out my body was, but I did get some work accomplished on the two troupe numbers I need to learn.  I still don't *know* the choreographies, but I feel now that I will know them, given some more practice.  My solo piece for Amira Jamal's recital was blah--I just didn't have enough oomph left in my body to pick myself up after backbending to the floor.  Funny how I had no trouble doing it the night before while full of wine at a party.  Hopefully it will go okay tonight, when I demo it for the class.  Not looking forward to dropping on a linoleum floor...

Well, that's about the state of my brain right now.

*tiny update--there is more than meets the eye.  Hmmm...
