Mar. 29th, 2005 11:18 amIs it really only Tuesday? Monday felt long enough to count for at least two or three days. Work was emotionally tough, from an empathetic standpoint. Then a two hour class on Karshlima, which is so not my friend right now. I'm sure I'll get it, but my back foot keeps wanting to cross back over in an arabesque and then I trip myself up and to make matters worse we were zilling at the same time (by which I mean to say, ten or so people were zilling and so my tinnitus was acting up and I couldn't really hear the music itself that clearly). And then we put a turn in there, and since I was already flustered my sense of clockwise and counterclockwise flew right out the window. Also, we were using a version of Rompi Rompi which was hella fast, and that song annoys me anyway, I think purely because I've been told I'm supposed to love it*. But challenges are good, and if I practice I'll get it down eventually, or hopefully by mid-May when I'm supposed to do some of this stuff in Amira Jamal's student recital. I need to get a big gypsy skirt with a ruffle on the bottom--the fabric on the big skirt i have is a little too stiff to really work right for this, so I think it's going to go out of the belly dance wardrobe and into the goth wardrobe.
*"oh," said M when I was telling him about this later, "it's the 'This Corrosion' of belly dance music."
After that lovely experience, I had a rehearsal for A Gypsy in Cairo which was very productive. I think we pretty much finished the choreo, so now it's just a matter of learning it. I didn't get home until about 11:45. (I got to use my new cell phone to call M and tell him that I was running late and not to worry, but he wasn't home. So I still haven't really used my phone yet. I did download an Addams Family ringtone though.) After finally eating some dinner, I became obsessed with picking out the music for my April 9 performance** so I wasn't in bed til about 2, and so now here I am very tired at 11:30 in the morning and many hours of wakefulness yet to come. It's all worth it though.
**Kismet's cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart (they're a Macedonian goth band, there's mizmar-sounding stuff in their cover), M.I.A.'s Pull Up the People, and the Creatures' Standing There. Crazy, but it works.
( appropriate quiz results, given that I'd rather be sleeping right now )
