clearing away
Jan. 23rd, 2005 08:40 pmInspired by all the unburying outside, I bravely embarked upon the uncovering of my desk and filing cabinet. This has not been done in a very long time--in fact, when we moved from orvis to freeman, I lifted everything off the filing cabinet then and replaced it once we'd moved, so this is a deep pile of the paperwork of my life. Two hours later, I had one trash bag and one recycle bag full of stuff, my paperwork is neatly organized, you can actually see the vast majority of my desk, and best of all I finally located, sorted and filed in a special binder all of the handouts and choreographies I've been given at classes and workshops over the years. So now when I think to myself, "gee, what was that combo Morocco taught us a couple of years ago?" I can go to the Morocco pocket of my binder and look it up. next project is to create an album of my stuff. Very vain of me, but really, it's just a livejournal in pictures, so all of you are as vain as I am.
The best thing I encountered while sorting and cleaning were two cards made for me by my troupemate's then-five-year-old twin girls. A couple of years ago, I participated in a student dance contest. Didn't even place, but I was more or less okay with that, since the purpose of entering was to give myself a challenge, not to beat other people. Furthermore another dancer who I think is just fabulous didn't place either, so I didn't take the judges' opinions too much to heart. Anyway, these two girls were upset that I didn't win, and so they made me cards with crayon drawings of me and trophies that said #1 and that kind of thing. Nothing beats that for heartwarming!
