For the second year in a row, the powerhouse team of local goth
scenesters Lauri Murphy and Anderson Mar are bringing you
a macabre night of industrial, synth and dark pop just in time to
celebrate Samhain with their annual "Mass. Morgue Event" on
Sunday, October 30, 2005 at the Sky Bar in Somerville. Last
year's show was a huge success, and this year's promises to be a
sellout featuring some of the best of Boston's creative dark side
with bands like The Glass Set (debut show) and the Illegitimate
Theatre Company, the etheradustrial Seven Sunless Days,
Lilac Ambush ("Love and Rockets meets New Order"), the dark
lyrical rock of the newly reformed Lucretia's Daggers (debut lineup)
and local buzz band HUMANWINE with their spooky gypsy
carnival music. Other performers include Badriya the gothic
bellydancer, a magician, a master psychic/tarot reader and David
Rosen performing his "broken word". And what goth party would
be complete without an industrial dj (DJ Deftly-D) and vendors
selling macabre wares inspired by spiders, skeletons and other
creepy creatures! With ManRay gone (for now), the Sky Bar is the
place to be this Halloween weekend! Sunday, October 30, at the
Sky Bar, 518 Somerville Ave., 7:30-midnight!
Saturday, Nov. 5: Troupe Sarab is participating in Johara's Annual Boston Bellydance Awards, competing in the troupe category. I am toying with the idea of entering the fusion category as well, we'll see how my next wing rehearsal goes. The contest runs from 2:30-4:00pm, admission is $15 at the door. The contest is followed by a belly dance fashion show and open floor dancing. Location is Baladi, upstairs at the Greek-American Club, 288 Green Street, Central Square, Cambridge. There are also workshops associated with this event, more info after cut. I'm not sure if I'll attend the workshops or not, it depends how hectic things are.

Did you knkow that effectively using your space, especially on a big stage or dance area, can make the difference between a so so show and a fenimimal [sic] show? Find out how in this mini-workshop with Josie Conte
12-1 : Improvising to live Middle Eastern music Alia Thabit from Vermont
Alia will unveil the secrets of dramatic interaction with live music. Learn how to anticipate changes, interpret instruments, and incorporate suspenseful shifts in mood and content, all on the fly, even to music you never heard before!
