Kenmore Square/Comm Ave PSA

From a BU police department notice:

...since January 14, there have been three reported robberies and one attempted robbery in and around the Boston University Charles River campus. One of these robberies occurred at the Kenmore Square T station and involved a weapon.  Some of the victims were Boston University students and all of them were reportedly talking on cell phones just prior to being robbed.

Hopefully nobody needs to be told not to walk around alone at night talking on your cellphone, but I pass this along just in case.  Victims were robbed of the phones and iPods.  The robberies were between 7pm and 9pm, so not that late.

Another reason to be content with my junky little phone that just makes calls and sends texts--it's so not worth stealing.

when we did Midwinter Mayhem at the RISD studio the other week, I noticed a bunch of security warning/incidents fliers in the hall, most involving assault/robbery of RISD/Brown students. I thought "OMG! I don't remember that being an issue when I went to school here!", and then I looked at the times/locations of the incidents (1-3am mostly)...and all I can think was, how stupid can you be, wandering around late at night by yourself? Providence is still a city! And I think half of them were folks on phones/playing ipods.

Sad. :( I guess people don't seem to realize what a target they are on headphones or cell phones. The assaults/robberies reported around campus here were wearing their ipods, and similar cases in Davis last summer.

Today I watched a Cambridge police officer in an SUV cop car drive across 4 lanes to take a right turn while on his cell phone. Lame!
