hey, rcn webmail just quadrupled their inbox size limit! how nice!
Theo and the Skyscrapers will be playing at The ICC in Allston on August 10, I may go see them since it's an early show just down the street from my work. That's Theo formerly of the Lunachicks. I haven't heard the newest album, but I liked the first one she did with the Skyscrapers quite a bit.
Seti had his distemper shot this morning and is currently sleeping it off. You always have to watch ferrets for signs of reactions after a vaccination so I'm staying home today to keep an eye on him. He looks like he's doing fine, though.
Today I plan to sew a corset belt, perhaps a corset bra, henna my feet, dance, do yoga, put away my laundry, make vegetable kabobs for grilling, watch SYTYCD and go to bed at a reasonable hour. I expect I will also laugh heartily at all my planning at some point, since it's currently 1:30 and I haven't started any of that.
I though Danny and Sara's tango was sizzling, but Dominic and Lauren's rhumba was also hot hot hot. Both boys showed tremendous improvement in their stage personas. I love Sara no matter what, but I also felt that this was some of Lauren's best dancing. Loved the Gotan Project Sarah Vaughn remix for the tango! I loved at the end of the tango when Sara's strutting away precipitated Danny's backflip--I thought it captured the spirit of the song and the tango quite well, even if it wasn't a tango movement in the slightest.
Lauren and Dominic's krumping, eh. Lauren started way too soft but got tougher as it went along. Dominic was fine. Overall it was just nothing that special, not in the context of the other performances. She did cover her fall really well--I saw her hit Dominic's back the wrong way but when she rolled, I figured it was part of the choreography. I was also underwhelmed by Sara and Danny's hip hop. I am in agreement that the costumes were awful. It looked more like a parody of hip hop than the real thing.
Lacey and Neil's Latin jazz was dull. If a guy takes his shirt off and he's not doing ballet, you know he is desperate for the teenage girl vote. He's a good dancer, but he's now out of his league. The things he does well, Danny can do better. The judges' comments about Lacey's looking at the audience all the time killing the chemistry were spot on. Thought the Mia Michaels number was boring. Hated the music for it as well, which undoubtedly lessened my enjoyment of it even more. Sorry she lost her dad and all, but the whole thing was overly artsy and pretentious.
Bless Sabra and Pasha for giving that painful Broadway number their all. I don't think Sabra does anything half-heartedly, and Pasha mugged his way through it appropriately. Their quickstep was far more entertaining. You can see watching Pasha in partner dancing what all the other guys have lacked--he's not only doing steps and being in the right place at the right time, he's providing a backbone of support for his partner, a centering point for all the stepping and spinning. And Sabra--well, she's just heavenly and at this point I think it would be an injustice if she doesn't win. It's so hard to believe that she's only been dancing for four years, she makes everything seem so natural and effortless. And energy just crackles off her.
I think it's time for Neil and Lacey to go home, but it could be Lauren this week instead of Lacey. That would be a bit of a shame, I think. Lacey came out strong from the get go, but we haven't seen any real change in her and I don't think she's really hearing what the judges have been saying to her about dancing with another person. Lauren otoh has shown a lot of growth every week and I'd like to see her trajectory continue. Neil's shirtlessness might save him this week, but that really wouldn't be fair.
